How to reconnect a WhatsApp Web number

When a WhatsApp Web session drops, messages stop being delivered. This guide walks you through restoring the connection in about five minutes.

Why does WhatsApp Web disconnect?

WhatsApp Web sessions are tied to your phone. They drop when any of the following happens:

  • The phone has been offline for several days
  • The "Linked Device" entry was removed manually from the phone
  • WhatsApp pushed a session update or a security challenge
  • The phone reinstalled WhatsApp or restored from backup

Quick AI Chat detects the drop automatically and pauses outgoing messages on the affected number. Once you re-link, sending resumes immediately — no data is lost.

1 Open the Quick AI Chat panel

2 Find the disconnected number

On the dashboard, your connected WhatsApp numbers are listed. Look for one that shows a red Disconnected badge or an amber Reconnecting… badge — that's the one you need to fix.

3 Remove the old session from your phone

Before generating a new QR code, log out the old WhatsApp Web session from the phone. Skipping this step is the most common reason re-linking fails.

  1. Open WhatsApp on the phone that owns the number
  2. Tap Settings (Android: ⋮ menu > Settings; iPhone: bottom-right tab)
  3. Tap Linked Devices
  4. Tap any existing WhatsApp Web entry
  5. Tap Log out

Important: if you do not log out the old device first, WhatsApp will sometimes accept the new QR scan but immediately drop the connection again — putting you back at the start.

4 Click "Reconnect" in the panel

Back in the Quick AI Chat dashboard, click the Reconnect button next to the disconnected number. A fresh QR code will appear within a few seconds.

5 Scan the QR code

On the same phone you used in step 3:

  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Go to Settings > Linked Devices
  3. Tap Link a Device
  4. Point the camera at the QR code on your computer screen
  5. Hold steady for two to five seconds until it confirms
The QR is valid for 60 seconds. If it expires, just click Refresh QR in the panel and try again.

6 Verify the green badge

Within ten seconds, the panel updates and shows the number with a green Connected badge. Send a quick test message from the panel to confirm the recipient receives it.

If the test message arrives on the recipient's phone, your reconnection is complete.

Still not working?

The number flips back to "Disconnected" within a few minutes

The WhatsApp account may be flagged or restricted. Try opening WhatsApp normally on the phone — if you see warnings about unusual activity or your account is temporarily banned, contact WhatsApp Support before retrying.

You can not see "Linked Devices" on the phone

Update WhatsApp to the latest version. Multi-device support is required and is included in all current versions of WhatsApp.

The QR code never appears, or always expires

Check your network — corporate firewalls sometimes block WhatsApp's pairing servers. Try from a different network. If the issue persists, send us a diagnostic request from inside the panel.

Too many devices already linked

WhatsApp allows up to four linked devices per number simultaneously. If you have used all four, log out an unused one first.

The status shows "Connected" but messages still do not deliver

This usually means the phone does not have an active internet connection. WhatsApp Web requires the phone to be online to relay messages. Check the phone's Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Need a hand?

Send us the affected number and a screenshot of the panel — we will check the diagnostic logs and reply within one business day.
